The Team at Purcell Racing

We are proud of our team at Purcell Racing, who all play an important role in making us the success we are today.  Each one has a genuine love of racehorses, a thorough knowledge of the racing industry and a strong work ethic. We would like to introduce them to you:

Bruce Purcell

Bruce Purcell, Trainer

Bruce is a patient trainer who is surrounded by a crew of capable and dedicated staff.  He works closely as a hands on trainer, taking care of his charges, both the four legged and two legged kind! 



Jean Purcell

Jean Purcell, Trainer

Jean is the other half of the partnership that makes Purcell Racing complete.  Her example she sets to her staff is to be admired with a positive attitude and dedication to her craft.  She and Bruce work closely together with drive and determination, combining their years of experience to achieve results.



Emma Coffey

Emma Coffey, Raceday Attendant

Emma is the daughter of Jean and Bruce and her responsibility is saddling up and presenting the horses to the hightest level at the races. On a busy day at the races she will always find time to mix with the owners and answer any questions that they may have.  Emmas role with Purcell Racing is not only very important but essential to keep the standard that Bruce and Jean expect.



Malcolm Astbury

Malcolm Astbury, Man Of Many Talents

Malcolm who is Emmas partner has various roles at Purcell Racing. He's a part-time truck driver, straps horses on raceday but by profession he is an Occupational Health and Safety Environmentalist.  With his qualifications and skills, Malcolm looks after the maintenance of the farm which is largely excavation and drainage work. Needless to say he is one of the  hardest workers we know.



Karly Barcham, Office Manager

karly has been with Purcell Racing coming up 2 years. karly is the happy and friendly voice you hear when you call the office and she ensures that the office runs smoothly and efficiently.


Benjamin Lang, Foreman

Benjamin has only recently filled the position of foreman at Purcell Racing. Ben is from New Zealand and has more than 10 years experience in racing and has worked for some of the best stables in New Zealand including Lance O'Sullivan. He is a true horseman.


Katrina Dennis, Weekend Stable Manager

Katrina has been with Purcell Racing since 2003 and is a valued member of our team, keeping things running smoothly for us.


Jessica Wright, Raceday Strapper and General Stable Hand

Jessica has been at Oakhill Lodge since late 2008 and has settled in with the team perfectly. She is a delight to have around


Peta-Jean Stewart

Peta-Jean Stewart, Stable Hand

Peta-Jean has been with us for almost a year after previously working interstate with other horse trainers.  We love her bubbly personality and she's a delight to work with.



Linda Ferguson, Stable Hand

Linda joined our stable in May, her caring nature shines through in the way that she cares for the horses and this is a quality that is much appreciated.


Sandra Phillips, Stable Hand

Sandra gained good racing experience by working for Quinton Scott before joining Purcell Racing.


Amanda Phillips, Stable Hand

Amanda like Sandra learnt alot while working for Quinton Scott before making the move to Purcell Racing.
